Tuesday Poem – Rangihaeata: the Beach in Winter

the beach today
the waves
like cut glass
and rocks coloured by wet
stand out
lit by that light
which is beyond day
but not yet night

all else grey
and snow whispers
in the back mountains

Yes this is a winter poem but this past weekend the snow has been lower than for many years on those same back mountains. Brr. So even though we are nearly halfway through Spring I have popped it in. It was first published in Sleepy Hollow Stirs ( (Nucleus Publications Nelson,2006)

Please return to Tuesday Poem and check out the choices of other Tuesday Poets. Tim Jones is the editor today with a poem about rock stars and penguins.
